Publication policies

Revista Enfoques Educacionales is an open-access scientific journal, published biannually with two issues per year in June and December, since 1998. It is edited by the Department of Education of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Universidad of Chile. The purpose of the journal is to support, promote, and disseminate specialized information and scientific knowledge, particularly produced in Latin America, through the publication of original full-text articles with free access. It is aimed at academics, researchers, education professionals, and the general public interested in the areas of scientific and technological research in Social Sciences and Education. The main topics included in this journal correspond to education at all levels and fields of implication. Preference is given to works conducted in Chile and Latin America. Articles and research can be published in Spanish, Portuguese, and English.

The journal publishes four types of texts, which correspond to:

1. Essays that present a personal stance on a topic or issue, based on objective information previously gathered and presented;
2. Original articles reporting research results;
3. Discussions, reflections, or comments on a specific and substantiated topic: interviews, opinion articles, in memoriam pieces; and
4. Book reviews, which are descriptive and critical texts of a publication that contribute to its reading.

The scientific, academic, and professional community, as well as interested parties, are invited to submit their work under an open and permanent call for papers.

Review Process

The Editorial Committee of the journal, after evaluation by at least two peer specialists under the double-blind modality, reserves the right to critically review the works and decide on their publication.

The review process consists of the following phases:

1. The text submission process begins with an editorial review that checks the article against the author guidelines and ensures that its content is original and unpublished, using Turnitin software. More details in the Submissions section.

The journal does not charge any fees for the receipt and/or publication of articles.

2. Once admissibility is declared, a reception date is established and communicated to the author.

3. A peer review is then conducted, with a maximum period of 6 weeks, which may be extended based on the reviewer’s requirements, under the double-blind modality. Each reviewer declares the article as:
- Publishable
- Publishable with suggestions
- Not publishable

Additionally, each reviewer indicates the section to which the manuscript belongs, according to the evaluation guidelines: Approaches, Research, Book Review or Speaking of…

In any case, the evaluation result is communicated via email.

If the peer reviewers have opposing opinions, a third reviewer is consulted to resolve the situation.

4. When the article is evaluated as "publishable with suggestions," the author has a period of 4 weeks to submit the article with the reviewers' suggestions to continue the editorial process. The author may request an extension of 2 weeks.

5. When the article is in a "publishable" condition or is returned with the reviewers' suggestions, a style correction is carried out by the journal. The author is then asked to approve the requested changes within three business days. If no response is received, the proposed modifications are considered accepted.

6. Considering the final adjustments, the editorial team proceeds with formatting, layout, and tagging the publication, making this review the original and final version for publication. The journal allows the publication of errata and is responsible for the retraction of articles.

7. The average manuscript processing time includes two stages, with a maximum of 12 months between them: a period of 6 months is considered between the receipt of the article and the final decision regarding its publication; and a period of 6 months between the acceptance and publication dates of the manuscript.
