Construction of teaching and management capacities for managing school coexistence in the Aysén region

Abstract

Social cohesion and coexistence are today our society's main topics of interest. In the educational system of the Aysén region, although reports of violence are on the rise, the vast majority of teachers and principals claim to build relationships based on healthy coexistence. In order to establish which teaching and management capacities are still to be built for schools to teach coexistence, we applied the sociopoietic approach to analyze five qualitative and quantitative studies applied to samples of teachers, managers, and education professionals, which characterize their installed capacities, training needs and challenges to improve school coexistence in the Aysén region. The results indicate the installation of a coexistence restricted to the interpersonal, a great willingness to reflect on its foundations, and the challenge of stabilizing organizational structures that promote compassion. We conclude that there is a need for continuing education at the regional level for education professionals to enable them to affect the decisions of their organizations.
