Representations of ancient hellenist culture in the videogames Civilization (1991-2018)

Abstract

The present scientific article deals with the representations of the ancient Hellenic world that a saga of videogames (of the genre of turn-based strategy) of enormous popularity and historical trajectory as Civilization has created since its appearance in the year 1991. This cultural product and entertainment always has highlighted the most iconic and popular identity elements of the Greek polis, Ptolemaic kingdom, Macedonia and the Byzantine Empire; emphasizing historical figures of such relief as Alexander the Great, Cleopatra VII or Empress Theodora.
